Description
The main objective of Promoting a Health School is twofold:
1. To help teachers and other educational staff become better equipped to prevent violence in schools; and
2. To create a well-tested procedure for dealing with critical incidents in order to promote a holistic education.

The partnership will be assembled to ensure a European dimension from different perspectives and realities, but with a common need to promote better learning and working environments.

The specific aims of the project are:
1. To train and sensitize school staff in matters related with health issues – special emphasis on substance abuse (drugs)
2. To work out plans and concrete methods to prevent and deal with drug matters in schools
3. To produce a European School Drug-Free Project (including questionnaires, workshop manuals, guides and other tools) and a possible European Healthy School Policy

Our group works in an all male school that caters for 11-16 year old students.

Schools/Teachers and other educational staff from EU Member States may contact us for further details about our project. Ideally, partners should come from educational institutions that cater for 11-16 year old students.

Working language will be English. However, it may be decided that tools and other material which will be produced, will be translated into other languages.

It has never crossed my mind that one day I would be visiting Israel. I met people who had visited the Holy Land and heard their astonishing experience, but me going there ...nah! Definitely impossible. But as they say, "Never say never!"
I had been invited by one of the organisers to fill in the application form to participate in a seminar that her organisation was preparing regarding non-verbal communication within the EuroMed platform. I did so...almost sure that my application form would be rejected. After a few days, however, I received a definitive reply that I had been accepted as a participant.
I have attended several seminars and meetings on an international level before. Being accepted for the another one, did not give me any particularly exciting effect.
However a strange shivering feeling started going up spine as soon as I arrived at the Tel Aviv airport. Perhaps for the fact that I was going to meet again some of my old friends from different Euro-Med countries. Or maybe because I was going to meet new people, make new friends, making new contacts for future projects. Whatever the reason, I was there for a remarkable experience - one which I had never ever dreamed of.
But the most amazing effect was when, on Saturday 6th December (or Shabbat - for the Jews) I travelled from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem - a one-hour long trip by car, wondering all the way about what would I have found and what to expect.
The ultimate moment was when I entered the Holy Sepulchre Church and visited the tomb where Jesus was crucified and buried. (Unfortunately!!!) I didn't have to wait in a long line (due to the turmoil in the region) to get closer to Jesus' tomb. I was told that in better times, it could take one several hours to get inside the tomb.
From there, I was led to the site where Jesus was crucified - just a few hundred metres away from the tomb.
Whatever one's religion may be, or to what extent one considers him/herself religious, visiting such a place surely leaves its effects.
Like with all the significant moments in life, sometimes, I have this strange feeling that it did not really happen, and as if I am just in a dream.
If so, please do not wake me up!

WHAT? PATH [EYWD] - Malta is facilitating a network of Maltese organisations. Following the success of a mailing list for Maltese organisations, PATH [EYWD] - Malta has put up a website to showcase the member organisations where they could be contacted by local as well as foreign organisations.
This website will be launched as part of the GYSD2003, event where guests are invited to meet up in the chatroom between May 1st and 2nd. Visitors are also urged to sign the guestbook, post messages in the message board, take
polls and use the other features available.
Most importantly, guests are encouraged to contact directly our members, possibly joining forces and organise projects together.

Following a meeting with the Director of Women’s affairs in the Ministry of Youth & Sport, Ramallah in August 2000, a decision was taken to organise a Women’s Study visit to Palestine. Then came the intifada, the meeting was delayed until December 2001 and held in Amman Jordan with the theme of “Women, Peace and Democracy”.

Many projects came from this meeting funded by the European Parliament YOUTH Programme. There was also the idea of an activity which would bring women together in one project and attract a lot of publicity, so this started as a joke and now we are taking “Follow the Women – Cycling for Peace” seriously.

Aim

 To show solidarity with women from the Middle East
 To focus on the issues in a different way, to attract a different media view
 To create peace/to say ‘Stop’ this is enough violence

Cycling
Let us do something together, something different to attract the media in many countries

We could…..

1. Cycle together through the Middle East with European and Arabic women. Starting in Beirut, Lebanon to Damascus, Syria to Amman Jordan where the women’s cycling group will be joined by many other women for a conference to decide further action.

2. Women could cycle on one specific day in all the European countries before the Middle East ride to raise money, show solidarity and gain media coverage.

When
October 2003. Cycle ride to last for 8 days followed by 3 day meeting in Amman.

Countries involved so far:
Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, France, Finland, Denmark, Basque Country and UK. Arab and Israeli women living outside their countries
