Forum Theatre, one of the techniques in the Theatre of the Oppressed repertoire, empowers audiences of all ages to learn, explore, and challenge key skills, such as communication, conflict resolution, healthy decision making, peer pressure, self-esteem, respect and tolerance, sexual abuse, substance abuse, and bullying. This form of theatre encourages the audience to talk about their problems and to seek alternative and creative, yet non-violent ways, how to deal with them. Besides giving the chance to reflect upon everyday situations, this form of theatre enables the audience to solve problems, form strategies, plan and induce social change.
These courses (in September and Novemebr) shall provide opportunities for participants to:
- create a safe environment where they can have dialogue
- explore choices and the consequences they bring
- practice for real life
- enhance their decision-making
- enhance their communication skills
- take risks in fictional worlds with the potential to learn rather than fail
- take action and be the protagonist in their own life
- analyse critically life situations
- utilise the multiple perspectives that different individuals bring to every interaction as a positive tool for problem-solving
Participants do not need any drama skills or have theatrical experience to participate in these courses. All one requires is the predisposition to experience new ways of dealing with everyday issues.
